BB&CC Ladder League 2024

From Dave Hill
Welcome to the first month of the Ladder League. Below, you'll find the rules, the groups for the month, and a quick explanation of Advantage GC.

In the attached documents you will find A sheet with the groups and the Advantage table so you can work out how much of a lead you get.

Please make sure you enter your score on the board in the Hut and in your handicap cards.

Rules

Games

1) You play one singles game against each of the other players in your group.
2) Games are Advantage GC
3) All games are first to seven points.
4) There is no time limit to individual games - all must finish.

5) In May, groupings are random. In June, those players with the best record in May will be put together, and so on. Winners keep playing winners.
6) Groups will be no fewer than four and no more than five players.
7) Small modifications to the order assigning players to groups may be made to ensure that players have as similar a number of games across the year as possible.
8) The winning player will be the one with (a) the most wins, then (b), the best hoop difference after five months of play - May, June, July, August, and September.
9) Unplayed games will be treated as a 0-0 draw, unless one player is at fault (for instance, by withdrawing from the month after committing to playing). In those cases, their opponent will be awarded a 7-6 win (such wins are not entered on the handicap card).

What is Advantage GC?
For those not yet familiar with Advantage, this form of handicap play gives the higher-handicap player a head start, which the lower-handicap player must attempt to catch. First to seven points wins. For example, I (0) am scheduled to play Chris (11), which means that I will start with a score of -4, while Chris will start with a score of 2. To get to 7, I need to score 11 hoops, and Chris needs 5.

You will notice that if we get to a score of 6-6, we'll have played 14 hoops - more than you normally reach in a best of 13 level game. If needed after hoop 12, the next hoops in sequence are those you would play in a best of 19 level game. First, hoop 3 (the ordinary 'golden hoop'), then hoop 4, and then hoop 1, all in the direction you would ordinarily run them. You will not need to go further.
